Why has the music on ITV shows such as Corrie and This Morning changed?

Viewers tuning into ITV over the past 24 hours might have noticed a subtle change in the theme tunes of their favourite shows.

Yup, the likes of This Morning. Coronation Street and Emmerdale all gave their opening music a bit of a makeover, swapping what we normally hear for piano-based versions of their theme tunes.

What’s going on, exactly?

Well, the themes might have been sounding a little different, but it’s only a temporary thing – and, as many have speculated, it is all to do with the impending arrival of the John Lewis Christmas advert.

Announcements from ITV during the day told us: ‘You may notice something different about your favourite ITV theme tunes today. Tune in at 9.15 tomorrow night for more.’

It has since been confirmed that that’s when the ad – always one of the most anticipated of the festive season – will air on TV for the first time, during the ITV drama Dark Heart.

If you can’t wait that long to see it though, the two minute 20 second commercial – featuring Sir Elton John – has already been released online (as you can see above).

The clip – called The Boy And The Piano – takes a look back through the singing legend’s life as it reveals the impact that receiving a piano as a Christmas present had on Elton as a youngster.

All to the soundtrack of his classic hit Your Song – as if it hadn’t hit you in the feels enough already – and John Lewis telling us: ‘Some gifts are more than just a gift.’

‘The John Lewis Christmas campaign has so many warm memories for me and my family,’ Sir Elton John said.

Sir Elton John reflects on his life in the moving ad (Picture: PA) .

‘It’s been a lovely opportunity for me to reflect on my life in music and the incredible journey I have been on, and how first playing my Grandmother’s piano marks the moment when music came into my life.’

‘The ad is absolutely fantastic and I’ve truly loved every minute of being a part of it.’
