Shocking footage captured the moment a British Airways flight rocked and rolled from side to side as it attempted to land in Gibraltar.
The video shows the Airbus A320, which can hold more than 180 people, being thrown around by strong winds.
As it approaches the airport, the wings dip and lift by nearly 45 degrees before it finally turns away.
The pilot of flight BA492, which left London Heathrow at roughly 8.30am on Monday, diverted to nearby Malaga as a precaution.
The man who filmed the incident, who preferred not to give his name, said: ‘Being where we are we see a lot of the landings, but never one as rough as that.
‘Glad that I wasn’t on it!’
Speaking to Sky News, passenger Eli Hassett said he was ‘screaming’ and saying prayers.
He said: ‘We were tilting from one side of the plane to the other. The wings were tilting, it was a near-death experience – let me call it that.
‘The captain, the pilot, she said to get ready for landing and warned us that it might be a bit bumpy because of the winds.
‘All of a sudden I literally felt like I was on a rollercoaster, tilting from side to side, we had no idea what was going on, people were, to say the least, very, very nervous.’
A British Airways spokesman said: ‘The flight has landed safely and passengers have left the aircraft normally.
‘Due to strong winds in the Gibraltar area, our pilots decided to land in Malaga as a precaution.
‘The safety of our customers and crew is always our number one priority.’
