A newborn weighing a whopping 12lb 6oz has left doctors at a hospital in Australia stunned – and set a new record.
Mum Nikki Bell, 28, is also being hailed a sensation as she used no pain relief when she gave birth to “chunky” Parker James Bell on Thursday.
The labour lasted two-and-a-half hours and not so little Parker was the talk of the maternity ward at Blacktown Hospital, West Sydney.
Since his headline-making grand entrance, the newborn, his proud parents and big sister Maddison, one, have returned to their home.
Nikki seemed unfazed at her lack of pain medication andand said that “all births hurt” no matter what size the baby.
She added: “I’m sure all births hurt, whether it’s 1.7kg of 5.7kg — they all hurt.”
A post was published on Facebook by the Blacktown Midwifery Group saying “New record”.
It read: “We are happy to report the not so little Parker and mum Nikki are doing well” along with a picture of Parker.
Thousands of people have commented on Parker’s weight.
One person described it as “incredible” but said they were “glad it wasn’ them”.
Another said “holy moly!” and “what an empowering and strong Mumma”.
Nikki and family have already started planning how Parker’s hefty weight might make him an excellent athlete.
She said: “Hopefully he will be a bit of a football player, maybe a front rower, that’ll keep his dad happy.”
