A suspected knifeman has been arrested after ‘stabbing a man with a kitchen knife in the Sony headquarters’.
Workers were ‘cowering’ under tables as armed police descended on the office in Derry Street, Kensington, shortly after 11am on Friday.
A witness said the suspect attacked a fellow kitchen worker with a 7-inch kitchen knife leaving blood ‘everywhere’.
Footage taken by Metro.co.uk shows a man being led away in handcuffs from the west London building.
Scotland Yard later confirmed he was arrested and two people were injured in the attack, although their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Armed officers evacuated more than 100 workers through the back door, and took them all to a safety zone in a nearby residential square.
A worker inside the building tweeted shortly after 11am: ‘Under tables in a locked office in the Sony building and there’s banging and screaming downstairs. Freaking out!!!’
She later added: ‘There was a stabbing downstairs. All our remaining in our locked rooms but we think police are now here.’
A witness, who did not want to be named, told Metro.co.uk: ‘I heard shouting and looked out of the window and these two guys were having a fight.
‘One of them on the floor and the other one was over him. I thought he was punching him and then I realised he had a big kitchen knife in his hand.
‘He was trying to stab him but the guy was blocking him with his arms, but then he got him in the leg, on top of the leg, on the side, there was blood everywhere.
‘They were both kitchen staff. People around were shouting but no one wanted to get too close because he had a f***ing massive knife.
‘They managed to get the guy off him and the other kitchen staff got a tea towel and was taken around the corner to get bandaged. The other guy was taken to the other end of the canteen to calm him down.
‘There was a lot of blood splatter on the floor. The guy who had the knife was sitting down, surrounded by people who were calming him down and he had like some tissue on his arm, so I don’t know what happened to his arm, or if he got attacked first.’
Sony Music confirmed in a statement that ‘two members of the catering team were involved in a violent altercation. The incident is now in the hands of the Metropolitan Police.’
In a statement, Scotland Yard said: ‘Police were called at approximately 1100hrs on Friday, 2 November to reports of an incident on Derry Street, W8.
‘Officers, including firearms officers, and London Ambulance Service are in attendance. Evacuations have taken place as a precaution.
‘Two people have suffered stab injuries – their conditions are not life-threatening or life-changing. One person has been arrested.
‘No evidence of any firearms involved in this incident. It is not being treated as terror related. Officers remain on scene and the incident remains ongoing.’
